CardFile Privacy Policy

Last updated November 2, 2026

Who we are

CardFile is a digital business card and contacts app at mycardfile.com, on the web and later on iPhone and Android. It is owned and operated by Widener Marketing Group ("CardFile," "we," "us").

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: [email protected].

The short version: we never sell your information. Your card is shared only where you choose to share it. The contacts you save are private to you.

Information we collect

What Examples Where it comes from
Account details Name, login email, phone, address; optional business name, category, and what you do You, at sign-up and in Account
Your cards Photos, logos, colors, fonts, services, website, social links, fax, your own text and image fields You, in the card designer
Contacts you save Cards you save, paper cards you scan (including the photo), your private notes and follow-up reminders You
Location Your phone's location, only if you allow it, to sort the directory and deals by distance Your device
Sign-in Email verification, sign-in links, and passkeys (face or fingerprint stays on your device; we never receive it) You and your device
Payments Plan, billing dates, last 4 digits of your card Stripe, through our GoHighLevel account. We never see or store full card numbers
Usage Card views, saves and shares; pages used; device and browser type; general location from your internet address Collected automatically
Messages and reports Emails to us, design requests, advertising inquiries, reports about cards or deals You
Phone confirmation A one-time code we text to your cell number at sign-up, and whether the number is a regular cell or an internet number (such as Google Voice) You, and our text-message provider
Deal codes The personal codes you get for deals, and when each was used, linked to your phone number so a business's limit can be applied You and the business, when you use a deal
Imported contacts Contacts you bring in from another card app's export file, or that you pick from your phone You, only when you choose to import
Cards sent to you before you join When a CardFile user texts or emails you their card, we keep the card with your phone number or email so it can be waiting in your Contacts if you sign up The CardFile user who shared their card with you

We never collect your whole phone contact list. You choose which contacts to import, and saving a card to your phone is something you choose, one card at a time. Imported contacts are private to you: they are never shared, sold, added to GoHighLevel, or used for marketing by CardFile or Widener Marketing Group.

How we use it

  • To run CardFile: create your account, show and share your card, save and sync your contacts across devices, send your follow-up reminders, and show your card stats.
  • To show what's near you: sort the directory and deals by distance from your current location or your home address, whichever you choose.
  • To send messages you asked for: sign-in links, receipts, and reminders. Deal emails (one weekly roundup) and deal texts only if you opt in. Reply STOP to texts or unsubscribe from any email at any time.
  • To tell you about Widener Marketing Group's services, only if you agree: CardFile is owned by Widener Marketing Group. If you check the box at sign-up or turn it on in Account, Widener Marketing Group may contact you about advertising, signs, direct mail, and design services, using your account and card details. We send no more than two of these emails a month, and they cover only our own services and promotions. No spam, and we never pass your details to other advertisers. You can turn this off at any time, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. We will never text you about these services unless you separately agree to texts.
  • To bill paid plans: CardFile Plus and Business plans are billed through Stripe.
  • To keep CardFile safe: review reports, remove cards or deals that break our rules, and prevent fraud and abuse. This includes confirming your phone number with a texted code and counting deal limits by phone number, so each person can use a deal only as often as the business allows.
  • To improve CardFile: understand which features are used, in summary form.
  • To follow the law: respond to valid legal requests and protect our rights and yours.

When information is shared

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. Businesses that post deals never receive your information from CardFile. They see only totals, such as how many people viewed their deal or used a code. When you use a deal, the business sees your deal code, not your name or phone number.

Your information is shared only in these ways:

  • Your card, when you share it. Anyone with your card's link or QR code can see what you put on the card. Contacts who saved your card can pass it along unless you turn that off in Account.
  • The directory, if you turn it on. Your card can be found by people nearby. It is off by default.
  • Search engines, if you turn it on. Google and others can find your card only if you switch on "Let Google find my card."
  • Service providers that run CardFile for us, under contracts limiting use to that purpose: hosting and database, email and text sending, Stripe for payments, and GoHighLevel, where we keep account and customer records.
  • CardFile admins, who can view account and card information to handle reports, billing, and support. They see how many contacts you have saved, not who they are or your notes. Every admin action is logged.
  • The law, when required by valid legal process, or to protect someone's safety.
  • A sale of CardFile. If CardFile is sold or merged, your information would transfer to the new owner, who must honor this policy or give you notice and a chance to delete your account.

Text messages (SMS)

We text you a one-time code to confirm your phone number at sign-up. We send deal texts only if you opt in. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, except the providers that deliver our messages.

Your choices

All of these are in the app, most under Account:

  • Edit or remove anything on your card at any time.
  • Turn the directory listing, Google visibility, and "others can pass my card along" on or off.
  • Turn deal emails, deal texts, and each notification on or off.
  • Turn "Widener Marketing Group can contact me" on or off. It is off unless you choose it.
  • Allow or deny location access in your phone or browser settings. Without it, distances use your home address.
  • Download all your contacts, or your own card, at any time.
  • Change your login email. We confirm the new address and notify the old one.
  • Delete your account. See below for what happens next.

Keeping, protecting, and deleting information

How long we keep it. We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your card, contacts, notes, and reminders within 30 days, and remove them from backups within 90 days. We keep billing records and the admin activity log as long as the law requires.

What happens to your card when you delete your account. Your shared link stops working. People who already saved your card keep a plain copy in their own contacts, but it no longer updates.

Security. Information is encrypted in transit and stored with reputable providers. Admin access requires a passkey and is logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.

Children. CardFile is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email [email protected] and we will delete the account.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your state (for example Texas, California, Colorado, or Virginia), you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy
  • Correct it
  • Delete it
  • Opt out of the sale of your information or its use for targeted advertising. We do neither.

Most of these you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email [email protected] from your login email. We will respond within 45 days. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our answer. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Changes to this policy

If we make a significant change, we will notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
